Anyone who knows me, know's i have a good ear, i can tell you within fifteen to thirty second's of hearing a song wether i like or, and often wether or not it's going to be a hit, so it was to my disbelief and amazement that up and coming Soul diva, Allyson ava Brown, was not chosen by the judges during auditions for, her belting cover of "Somebody else's guy", on BBC-1's "The Voice", like a number of people, fans of the voice, it does not make sense to me, at all, that Allyson did not go through to the next round. but, the Voice's loss, is the music industry's gain.
Allyson won the Mobo award for best unsigned artist in 1998, however she dropped out of the scene before getting into acting, she has become recognised for parts on stage in theatre, and Tv, in production's like "Secret Diary of a call girl","The Swallowing Dark" (for which she won a nomination as best actress at the Offie awards, and playing fantine in Les miserable, at the Queen theatre with the RSC
However music, is what she is pushing to the forefront of her life, and based on her performance of Someboy else's guy, Allyson's voice can take her wherever she want's to go, she has a great soul quality to her voice, also evident in "Baby it's you", which she recorded recently, with her brother, who is a really talented musician, and Allyson shows wonderful softer tones on the ballad on "Three tiny words" from Chris passey's album "Self taught", with the single raising money for cancer research UK the and MS society, Charities.
What Allyson can take from the Voice, are some wonderful compliment's
from Tom jones, and the judges, (Will I-am's face said it all), and a performance which showed an adorable, humble young woman, with a fast growing number of fan's.
Here's hoping some huge club anthems and R&B smashes lay ahead,
because the UK scene needs more women who can deliver crowd pleasing commercial songs, with a soulful essence to they're voice. So while Allyson
did'nt make team Tom, im sure with label's always looking out for someone unique, it won't be long before Allyson, is Someone else's girl.
